Stimbok Agriculture Commodities

Commodity Export

Agriculture represents the largest private-sector component in most African countries, employing a large share of the population and accounting for a significant portion of rural income. It is estimated that a $1 increase in agricultural value-added generates a $1.3-1.8 increase in the rural non-farm economy. Agriculture in Africa has significant growth potential given the increasing demand for food crops from domestic markets and cash crops from emerging markets. Sustained growth in the agricultural sector is therefore critical for the overall development of many African economies.

To support their growth ambitions, African farmers need better access to markets and reliable and accurate information about prices for their goods. In addition, they need better and improved access to finance to make informed investment decisions. On the other hand, agricultural commodity buyers from across Africa need better information and access to products and markets in a timely and cost-efficient way. We believe a viable commodity exchange can play an important role in addressing the needs of both African farmers and commodity buyers.

Access to commodities and an increase in production by local farmers is the answer.

Stimbok is also working on a seed generation program in Malawi, Tanzania, and Malawi to increase the total tonnage of Soybean and sugar beans in the region to 1 million tones each by 2025.

We are currently working on a framework with some key stakeholders and policyholders in the region to not only make a play on the global commodity market but also increase the number of local farmers in agribusiness.

As the world population continues to grow, much more effort and innovation will be urgently needed in order to sustainably increase agricultural production, improve the global supply chain, decrease food losses and waste, and ensure that all who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition have access to nutritious food. Many in the international community believe that it is possible to eradicate hunger within the next generation, and are working together to achieve this goal.

Extreme poverty and hunger are predominantly rural, with smallholder farmers and their families making up a very significant proportion of the poor and hungry. Thus, eradicating poverty and hunger are integrally linked to boosting food production, agricultural productivity, and rural incomes.

Agriculture systems worldwide must become more productive and less wasteful. Sustainable agricultural practices and food systems, including both production and consumption, must be pursued from a holistic and integrated perspective.
